“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

As children of God we are called to be givers, which certainly includes of our finances too. We are to imitate our Father in Heaven who gave is only begotten Son for us. God gave out of love and we are to do the same. We are to give graciously and generously to the work of the ministry, because we love our Lord.

When we give, we do it two different ways. We are to give a tithe, which is simply a tenth of all we earn. We are also to give offerings; these offerings are above our regular tithe. An offering could be to help missionaries around the world; it could be to help with the renovation or construction of a church facility; it could be to help the poor and needy. But whatever the offering is given for it is above and beyond our tithe.

To be able to give is a blessing and a privilege, and should be looked on as such. Remember, God love a cheerful giver and God has promised to bless the giver, that they may continue to give and be a blessing. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.” – Malachi 3:10
